What does a revoked or expired certificate really mean?

1994-02-09 13:18:00

Hmmm. Just some questions that came up wilst perusing the mailbag ...

Is there a clear definition of what it means to a user and the functions
he or she can perform when a certificate is expired (or revoked for that
   matter)?

For example when "User A's" certificate is expired can:

   - User "B" use the public keys on User "A's" certificate to send
   messages to User "A"?

   - User "A" do something useful other then generate another certificate
   request?

   - User "B" read mail sent to him from User "A"?

   - User "A" read mail that has been sent to him from User "B"?
