Re: Re[2]: Is PGP really more widespread than PEM?

I agree with John. Is there anyone from Viacrypt on the list who is
willing to share the number of commercial PGP licenses ? Is it
anywhere near the number of Apple System 7.5 users ?

No offense, Steve, but these blanket comparrisons are completely
bogus. You can't compare the number of owners of a product to the
number of people who use a specific feature of that product!

How many people have autocook microwaves that have complex programming
to autocook tens of types of meals, but never use them because the UI
is too complicated?

How many people do you know that have phones with autodialers imbedded
in them? How many people actually use those autodialers?

How many people have VCRs but never use the 3-week programming
features that are included therein?

How many men never use the fly in a pair of underwear?

Just because a feature is included in a piece of software, or any
product for that matter, does not mean that you can count the number
of users of that feature by the number of owners of that piece of
software. How many people _use_ that feature!? That is the important
question, and I would posit that the number of users of PEM is rather
small.
