formail woes !

1995-11-21 13:50:11
Hi all:

A few days ago I posted a problem I've been having with formail where it would
not break up digests and issue an error in the log as follows:

procmail: Skipped "|formail +1 -d -s cat >> Firewalls"
From xxxx(_at_)bits(_dot_)fc(_dot_)hp(_dot_)com Fri Nov 17 17:04:49 1995
Subject: Re: Error writing to ""

This was in response to the following rule:

:0:
* ^Subject:.*Firewalls-Digest
|formail +1 -d -s cat>>Firewalls

After getting some good responses from the kind people of the list, One common
thread was to upgrade to a later version of procmail which is/was more
forgiving ...

I did just that to:

        procmail-3.10

and still a similar (but not identical problem). The rule in the .procmailrc
now reads the same (I added some verbosity to the log ...) and it fails as
follows:

procmail: [10282] Tue Nov 21 14:27:38 1995
procmail: Match on "^Subject:.*Firewalls-Digest"
procmail: Locking "Firewalls.lock"
procmail: Executing "formail +1 -d -s cat>>Firewalls"
procmail: Error while writing to "formail +1 -d -s cat>>Firewalls"
procmail: Program failure (2) of "formail +1 -d -s cat>>Firewalls"
procmail: Assigning "LASTFOLDER=formail +1 -d -s cat>>Firewalls"
procmail: Unlocking "Firewalls.lock"
procmail: No match on "^Subject:.*Daily Accounting Report"
procmail: No match on "^To(_dot_)*sysgroup(_at_)hgsi(_dot_)com"
procmail: No match on "^From.*root"
procmail: No match on "^From.*MAILER-DAEMON"
procmail: No match on "^From(_dot_)*listproc(_at_)list(_dot_)cren(_dot_)net"
procmail: No match on "^From:.*owner-nation-l"
procmail: No match on "^Sender:.*owner-fwtk-users"
procmail: No match on "^Sender:.*owner-nation-l"
procmail: No match on "^From:.*news"
procmail: No match on "^Sender:.*BUGTRAQ"
procmail: No match on "^Sender:(_dot_)*owner-ids(_at_)uow(_dot_)edu(_dot_)au"
procmail: Locking "/usr/people/marco/Mail/Inbox.lock"
procmail: Assigning "LASTFOLDER=/usr/people/marco/Mail/Inbox"
procmail: Opening "/usr/people/marco/Mail/Inbox"
procmail: Acquiring kernel-lock
procmail: [10282] Tue Nov 21 14:27:39 1995
procmail: Unlocking "/usr/people/marco/Mail/Inbox.lock"

procmail: Notified comsat: "marco(_at_)45108:/usr/people/marco/Mail/Inbox"

Now the funny thing is that when I make the rule as follows:

:0:
* ^Subject:.*Digest
|formail +1 -d -s procmail

It undigests the mail in my Inbox folder ?

I've looked for ebmedded spaces in the rule ... (None) ... Looked at the
permissions on formail 755, it is in the path ....

'cat' is in the patch and is executable by all ....

Any hints appreciated ... The system is an SGI/Irix 5.3 .....

BTW ... I did subscribe to the list ... If there is an FAQ other than that
which came with the software distribution .... Pointers there would also be
appreciated ...

Thanks ...

Marco
