MAILDIR = $HOME/Mail

Wouldn't that just create a folder called INBOX with all the other folders,
rather than storing mail in /var/spool/mail? The bulk of my mail passes
through the filters and I'd rather store is under /var than in /user, due to
the different quotas involved.

Hmm, you apparently use pine to read your mail, no?

Yes. :)

 you should probably
tell procmail to do verbose logging and look at the resulting log to
see what procmail is doing. Have you do that? If so, can you include
the log entries in question in your message to the list?

I've deleted all the "no match on" entries for clarity.

Here's one which worked correctly:

procmail: Assigning "INCLUDERC=/user/dbromage/.procmail/rc.maillists"
procmail: Match on
"(^((Original-)?(Resent-)?(To|Cc|Bcc)|(X-Envelope|Apparently(
-Resent)?)-To):(.*[^a-zA-Z])?)procmail"
procmail: Locking "IN.procmail.lock"
procmail: Assigning "LASTFOLDER=IN.procmail"
procmail: Opening "IN.procmail"
procmail: Acquiring kernel-lock
procmail: Unlocking "IN.procmail.lock"

procmail: Notified comsat: "dbromage(_at_)6069:/user/dbromage/mail/IN.procmail"

And the offending one:

procmail: Assigning "INCLUDERC=/user/dbromage/.procmail/rc.maillists"
procmail: Assigning "INCLUDERC=/user/dbromage/.procmail/rc.rail"
procmail: Assigning "INCLUDERC=/user/dbromage/.procmail/rc.general"
procmail: Assigning "INCLUDERC=/user/dbromage/.procmail/rc.killfile"
procmail: Skipped "fgrep -i -f /user/dbromage/.procmail/.killfile"
procmail: Assigning "LASTFOLDER=?"
procmail: Opening "?"
procmail: Acquiring kernel-lock

procmail: Notified comsat: "dbromage(_at_)549:/user/dbromage/mail/?"

Cheers
