We recently set up our own DNS domain, and the folks at our network center
told us that the root domains were starting to enforce stricter naming
standards. Host and subdomain names had to consist of [A-Za-z0-9-] ONLY,
and they could not be all numbers. This caused us some problems because the
underscore was not on the approved list, so all of our PCs had to be
   renamed.
