something I've done means LOST email

I've been using procmail for over a year with no major problems  
whatsoever.

Now, suddenly, 90% of my email is not being delivered, and my  
logfile is jam full of NULL characters rather than any useful  
information.

Does anyone have any idea what might have caused this?  If so,  
please let me know.  I had to turn off procmail and it's driving me  
nuts!
