Hello and happy new year. I have a silly question which is born
out of curiosity rather than any specific problem.
Does a recipe such as
:0
{
LOG="whatever"
}
(or, for that matter, *any* assignment to the LOG variable) need a
local lock file? Or does procmail handle contention for writes to
$LOGFILE as a special case? Or is there a simpler reason why locking
isn't necessary?
I've been logging messages w/o locking for a year or two, and no
problems have ocurred. Am i just lucky that my OS provides working
kernel locks?
Thanks.
