Seriously, as a sidenote to those on procmail-d, that's the
secret to debugging, whether it's procmail recipes, shell scripts or C
programs. Simplify the commands as much as possible and try
removing/adding items one at a time and see what happens. More often
than not it is one line of code which causes the program to break. It is
also important to make verbose logs (procmail) or dump the values of
variables (C programming) to screen to understand just what your program
is doing.
Remember, computers are logical devices. They do just what they
are told. :-)

Hmm...what version of procmail are you using? I have 3.10 on my
system and my manpage for procmailrc doesn't list an expansion of
FROM_DAEMON to be quite that verbose.

Put this in your sendmail alias file:
MAILER-DAEMON: postmaster
so that all the MAILER-DAEMON mail will get sent to the
postmaster alias/account then you won't have to worry about catching
stuff from the daemon.
And why in man-page there is obviously broken example ? :(
