I've got 3 accounts using pre4 right now, and nothing is really "missing"

Two questions:
      1) is there any compelling reason to goto pre7 (I haven't seen
any, but haven't been looking all that closely

There are some changes, some significant. But, if pre4 is working for
you now, there isn't a real reason to upgrade.
However, since I'm gearing up for a real release, I would appreciate
as many people as possible to pick up the prerelease versions.
If there still are any compilation or runtime problems left, *report* them.

Apart from the sgid/lockbug (which is present in pre4 as well) which I
provided a patch for earlier today, the current version is
believed to be *BugFree* (TM).

      2) is this likely to break anything already working? I have seen
some talk of that when pre5 came out...

There were some problems in pre5 and even pre6. They're all ironed out
now (I think).
