Procmail Installation Problem

1997-07-14 12:29:00
Hi all,

This is my first post to this list. I hate starting off with a total
newbie question without lurking for a while, but this problem has
really got me.

I'm trying to install procmail (v3.11pre7) as the local mail delivery
agent on an SGI Indigo2 Extreme running Irix 6.2. Sendmail is 8.8.6.
I'm using MediaMail Pro 3.2S.3.1P as my mail reader. I've compiled the
procmail binary with no problems and installed it in /usr/bin as
folows...
-rwsr-sr-x 1 root mail 141016 Jul 12 19:52 /usr/bin/procmail

I've added FEATURE(local_procmail) and MAILER(procmail)dnl to my
local.mc and created a new sendmail.cf. I've restarted the sendmail
deamon. All the paths are correct and every thing looks fine. Mail is
getting delivered, but for some reason sendmail doesn't seem to be
using procmail to deliver the mail.

I compiled procmail with `#define console "/dev/console"' uncommented
and have `VERBOSE=on' set in my /etc/procmailrc but no messages appear
in the console window and no log entries are made when mail is sent or
received. I have a very simple filter in my $HOME/.procmailrc, but no
filtering is taking place.

When I run procmail from the command line it works perfectly. Likewise,
when I move /bin/mail and link procmail in it's place it works fine. I
really don't want to trash /bin/mail as it's used for other things than
mail delivery. Running sendmail with the -d01.5 gives me the folowing
mailer information...

mailer 0 (prog): P=/usr/local/etc/smrsh S=10/30 R=20/40 M=0 U=0:0

I've scanned the FAQ's and any documentation I can find.I know I'm
probably overlooking something obvious and easy. If anyone can shed
some light on this for me I'd sure appreciate it. Again I appologise
for starting off with this list with a "how do I make it work"
question.
