I have limited experience from using either, but I'd say they're
mostly reasonable, yes. Nospam is a bit too paranoid for my taste.

FWIW, you can find links to more similar resources at
    <http://www.iki.fi/~era/procmail/links.html>

A general problem with spam filtering is that when a filter becomes
very popular, the spammers will find a way to circumvent it. For this
reason, it makes sense to have some spam filtering measures of your
very own, even if it's nice to be able to rely on external resources
for stuff like Cyberpromo's domain names of the week. Staying on top
of that is a full-time job of its own. (And there are nice people who
do that for us already. <http://ee.tut.fi/~kaukasoi/>)

I would also guess that many people on this list are on it precisely
because they want to learn how to write their own spam filters. If you
want to discuss ways to stop spam, there are several good spam lists
you could try. spamtools(_at_)abuse(_dot_)net is perhaps too technical and
bit-twiddly for your taste but this thread would fit there nicely
IMHO.
