Why are all these SmartList questions being posted to the procmail
mailing list?
The procmail list has enough traffic of its own....
I post to both lists because that is what has been recommended to me.
Basically, Smartlist has always been lower volume, and the spam that
goes through both lists has driven away enough readers that the
Smartlist list is basically comatose.
Let me understand this:
a. You have questions about SmartList.
b. The SmartList list "seems" to be inactive (for whatever reason).
c. So, you send to another list, which is more active.
First, your assesment that the SmartList list is inactive is not
correct. The list is active. If you wish evidence, please see below.
Second, mail to mailing lists should be directed by the purpose of the
list, and not because the list readership is more active than another.
The volume of mail from a mailing list does not reflect on the quality
of information you will receive from it. In fact, I claim that the more
mail a mailing list receives, the lower (worse) the signal-to-noise
ratio becomes. [And, I've just lowered it a bit more by this
dual-posting, but it is mitigated by the advice which follows.]
So, you should post SmartList questions (and answers) to the SmartList
mailing list; and the more generic procmail issues to the procmail list.
I've been a contributor to both lists for a few years, and I can recall
very few (three? four?) instances of having posted to both.
Thanks.

Here are the last 50 messages I have from the SmartList list, which, if
you look at the date, you'll see are very recent -- anywhere from 5 to
10 messages per day. (The first column are my private message indexes):
