Are you sure these are true mailinglists ? I sometimes get spam that
claims to have me subbed to their mailinglist, and I never reply, just
trash with the rest. None of them ever turned out be true mailinglists.
I'd be leary of sending anything back to them, not even a sendmail-return.
The first was definitely a mailing list. A procmail recipe on the name of
the list shunted off five to twenty messages a day. And the list had a
Web page. I had my "postmaster" forge an unsubscribe*, since mine didn't
seem to work, and that one did work. I imagine the people on those two
lists are having a lot of fun with their "cooperative effort" right now!
*speculation was that the ones I sent may have had the addresses altered
on their way through our rat's nest of mail routers
