You're making it *way* too complicated. ;-)
Unless you put something in /etc/procmailrc, it's a drop-in
replacement for /bin/mail (as a local mailer), is 30% faster,
and much more robust. And you won't notice a difference, unless
you (or your users) create a ~/.procmailrc or you have an
/etc/procmailrc.
