        This refers to a variable amount of spaces.  What you want
        to achive is probably "From:(_dot_)*(_at_)linus" which matches 
everything
        with a @linus in the from line.

In such situations, define a logfile and let procmail do logging.
In that case you'd see which pattern match and you'll find the
mistake earlier.
