RE: Problems with Netscape

1998-10-07 22:33:37

Be warned. Netscape doesn't do any file locking, so if you are using
procmail to drop messages into folders and have Netscape read them, you
may loose mail.

The way I worked around it was to either:

o get procmail to add an appropriate header in the message which
Netscape could use to filter/file the message

or

o use procmail to deliver the message to the correct folders and have
Netscape use an IMAP server to access the folders.

Subject: Problems with netscape

Hi, everybody.

I would like to use procmail and netscape together, but I'm having
problems. If anybody can help I'll very eternaly graceful.

I have the next configation.

.forward
------------

#"|IFS=' ' && exec /users/my_user/bin/SUN/procmail  || exit
75 #my_user"

.procmailrc
-----------------

PATH=$HOME/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/ucb:/bin:/usr/local/bin:.
MAILDIR=$HOME/nsmail # You'd better make sure it exists
DEFAULT=$MAILDIR/Inbox
LOGFILE=$HOME/tmp/from.`date +%y-%m-%d`
LOCKFILE=$HOME/.lockmail
SHELL=/bin/ksh
VERBOSE=yes

##############################################################
#############
:0
* ^From.*
| formail -ds cat >> /var/spool/mail/my_user

and the problem that report the log file is:
------------------------------------------------

procmail: Error while writing to " formail -ds cat >>
/var/spool/mail/my_user "
From my_user(_at_)email_server_machine  Tue Oct  6 16:03:54 1998
  Folder:
/users/my_user/nsmail/Inbox                                       1630

------------------------------

My /var/spool/mail/my_user file is mounted on my machine (HP) from
another machine (SUN).

Basicaly what I like is: after processing email with
procmail, let knows
netscape that I have just received email.

Any advice will be welcome,

thanks a lot,
Alex.
