      a user recently reported a problem with the headers in
some mails that were being redirected via a .forward file being
rewritten. could the problem described (which i quote below)
conceivably be caused by procmail, or would it be the fault of
the mta on the receiving end. (procmail is running on both the
system from which the mail is being forwarded, and the one to
which it is being forwarded, if that matters.)

It's weird. :-) For some reason *some* mailing lists (all "Listserv" type
mailing lists) are throwing the "From:" header into the middle of the
"X-Received" line. For example, here's something from the Educause
server:

X-Received: from www.CIRC.gwu.EDU (www.circ.gwu.edu [128.164.127.251])
       by gwis2.circ.gwu.edu (8.9.1a/8.9.1) with ESMTP id PAA07624;
       Fri, 19 Feb 1999 15:11:11 -0500 (EST) From: EDUCAUSE
...

It's the MTA, not procmail (unless the receiving user has a very bogus
.procmailrc). This is probably occuring on the machine listed in the
'by' clause of the header: gwis2.circ.gwu.edu
