missing cat data

Thanks to whoever it was spotted the missing pipe.  The autoack
routine now works, but again only sort-of. Era's suggestion
for appending the original message text doesn't work; the last echo
line is the last thing appearing in the autoack response. No errors
show up in the log file. Any suggestions?
