Well, he wants to weed out all email sent to valid addresses, which will be
easier to spot, since there is no exhaustive list of the fake ones.

It is not a virtual domain name problem; Eric is not using a virtual domain. 
I said it is *equivalent* to the virtual domain problem because, in order to
process mail properly, procmail needs to be told the envelope recipient in-
stead of relying on finding it in the headers, just as in the classic virtual
domain problem.

The difference is that, in the virtual domain problem, it is the hosting
domain's MTA that knows the true recipient address and has to put it where
the owner of the virtual domain can give it to procmail, say by adding a
Delivered-To: header.  Here, it is Eric's own machine's MTA that has to
make the true recipient address available to procmail, possibly by invoking
procmail directly as LDA (not through a .forward) under the uid of the real
user with the incoming recipient information as one of the rcfile's posi-
tional parameters, using procmail's -m or -a options, or -a with -d.
