Nobody noticed that the actual messages were different. I sent both. I
wasn't sure if the first one went through because I didn't receive a copy,
so I sent again.
On that note, does anyone have any ideas on how to fix my problem?

Probably the touch is doing nothing; I don't think touch can be found in
/usr/5bin
On My (Linux) system, it lives in /bin
In any event, I do not think finger will say there's mail unless there's
something in /var/spool/mail/$USER or wherever.
The solution depends on just where your mail gets put. In eany event, if you
have perl or Java, something could be cobbled together that will emulate your
email client as far as checking mail goes, and which can be run from a
commandline, even in Windows.

at your end (c flag). Make sure you're not actually getting a CC: on a
message you've replied to.

Note they have different message-ids (and the headers are capitalised
