Mailboxes marked as new

2001-06-21 10:47:58
Not sure if this is a Procmail problem, Mutt, or possibly NFS. Here's
the situation, maybe someone has experienced the same:

My home directory is mounted via NFS, and this is where all of my
incoming mail gets stored. Mutt, I run from the local machine. From time
to time, a folder will get marked as having "N"ew mail, when in reality
it does not. The only way I've found to stop this behavior is to 'touch'
the file, and then all is well.

This really isn't a major problem, just a minor annoyance. Just curious
if anyone has an idea as to what the cause for this might be, and a
possible solution.

My first guess would be locking, but I'm not too sure how I can go about
resolving that. Perhaps a change in my recipes would be in order, or
perhaps using that mutt_dotlock would help? Perhaps I should sign up for
the mutt list, and ask there too? :)

Anyways, any ideas are welcome. If the subject is so far OT that it
doesn't deserve space on this list, please pass suggestions privately.
Thanks, and sorry for the long winded post.
