$GZIP is: GZIP = $HOME/bin/gzip
$HOME comes from my environment as: /home/bulloo/mcmaster
It *should expand to the fully qualified pathname:
/home/bulloo/mcmaster/bin/gzip
which is the location of gzip. I don't think $PATH should come into play.
In effect, I believe I am executing the full pathname through variable
expansion. Are you saying procmail and/or gzip care the pathname came from
variable expansion? If you think it makes a difference, I will try it
without any variables, but I find it a little hard to believe this is causing
an intermittent failure. I'll post results tomorrow.
