Messages marked as new

Hello

I am using procmail to filter my incoming mail. It all works fine and the 
mail will be put into the appropriate folder.

When I use k-mail to read my mail , the email is not flagged as NEW. Any mail 
that has not been "touched" by procmail ends up in my inbox(flagged as new) 

man procmailrc has the flags in detail but none allude as to keeping mail 
"new"
