I have just download Procmail 3.22 and install it on Sun Solaris 8. I
have modify the /etc/sendmail.cf and create
a .procmailrc for the user "root" and it's working fine.
Nothing to do with your problem, but as a general security measure, it's
often a good idea to have root's email handled by another account (using an
alias). That way, you're never tempted to use an insecure protocol to
access root's email from a remote system, thus exposing your root
password. It also means that when running external processes from procmail
(as this other user), you're not running them as _root_, which can lead to
other issues if you botch something.
If I took the same rule and copy it into a home directory of
someone else, I'm getting this error whan receiving an e-mail :
Mar 8 13:01:17 rocket procmail[3057]: [ID 185714 mail.alert]
Suspicious rcfile "/home/dlgldb/.procmailrc"
see 'man procmail'.
Here is the rule ( just for testing ):
As per the manpage, the error has NOTHING to do with the rule itself - it
has to do with ownership and permissions of the rcfile or the directory in
which it is located.
