RE: Newbie to Procmail

I will see if I can get him to respond, but I know someone that setup
Procmail, at least that is what he said, to rename *.exe, *.vbs and etc.
extensions to something benign and added a tag stating that the change
has occurred. He did this because there are times when you could be sent
a self-extracting zip file or patch or something from someone that you
are expecting. Simply tossing those to the bit bucket could cause some
minor issues, major issues if you have a client that insists upon sending
you self-extracting password protected zip files for quoting jobs.

Although, I am certain that someone here will probably be able to get
back with a recipe to do such a thing before my contact will get back
with me.

i hope it is possible with procmail..

I joined this list several months ago hoping to learn the same thing, and

found that the learning curve was VERY steep, and that I wasn't very far
along. I'm still learning.

However, I did find out that I need not spend too much time re-inventing
the anti-virus and anti-spam wheel. There are several good, functional
tools which can be installed and called from procmail with a little
effort
(but less than building them yourself!) I'm using the Sanitizer
(<http://www.impsec.org/email-tools/procmail-security.html>, thanks John)

and SpamAssassin <http://spamassassin.taint.org/>. There are other tools
available to do both jobs, as well.
