Now, I got the default .forward file, and my .procmailrc looks like
this:

MAILDIR=$HOME/Maildir
Procmail's MAILDIR variable has *nothing* to do with the maildir mailbox
format (indeed, it predates the format). If you want procmail to use
$HOME/Maildir as your mailspool, you should completely ignore the MAILDIR
variable and instead set the DEFAULT variable. The assignment:
DEFAULT = $HOME/Maildir/
should do what you want.
