Has your system ( procmail binary | formail binary | MTA program binary |
MTA config | /etc/procmailrc file ) been changed?
Nothing thas been changed.
If you save a message to a file:
:0c:
backup.mbx
What about:
:0c:
* ^From[ ]
backup.mbx
I added both of those to the begining of my procmailrc.
Each message was copyed (2x because I added both) to backup.mbx as it
should have been.
One of the 12 messages I had a copy of my $MAIL made it mbox with the
problem discribed.

Here is the proc log of the message BEFORE that one because that
message does not show up in the procmail log at all.

Which should only match if the message is being passed INTO procmail
without this messup - if THIS doesn't match, then it isn't how procmail is
saving anything, because the message is arriving in procmail's care fscked
up.
Well they arived unmolested into there backup files. So the problem
is procmail's and not their ariveal to /var/spool/mail/faux
