TopPost:
What if the email address is "valid" but "forged" by a spammer, etc., a
fairly common practice. Then you are bouncing to the innocent.

What I'm looking to do is implement a bounced mail system for denied
attachments because I'm basically going to start blocking all of them
soon. But in order to prevent someone from getting stung who shouldn't I
want a bounce message that explains why this is so and what to do to get
around it. I'm curious if procmail could do this somehow? Or do I need to
point to an outside script that does this?
Basically in short here's what will happen. Email comes in with an
attachment. Email is filtered into a virus dumping mailbox. Then the mail
server in turn fires off a mail back to the original sender saying "Your
email has been filtered and removed because it contained an illegal
attachment. Here's what you do to correct this." If the email address is
valid the email is sent, all is happy in mail land. If the address bounces
or is invalid, the email the system is trying to send is simply dumped into
/dev/null and that's the end of it. Nothing shows up in my mailbox to say
it was bounced. That way I don't get flooded by hundreds of responce
emails from the mail server. :)
Is this something I could do via procmail or do I need to ask the
Freebsd
people about this? Maybe a sendmail list? Just curious. If you could
point me in the right direction I would be greatly thankful.
