It is a week of unusual and bizarre problems around here. The latest involves
procmail.
Setup:
Solaris 2.8, patches current as of September
sendmail 8.12.10 (compiled with gcc 3.2.2)
procmail 3.22 (compiled with gcc 3.2.2)
Procmail is invoked from user ~/.forward files.
Situation:
Created two test accounts that are identical in everything except user name
and password (on same file system too).
Created an empty ~/.procmailrc file in both accounts with mode 600 and
proper owner+group.
Insured the user home directory mode was 755 and ~/.forward was 600 for
sendmail. Owner+group on both is proper for the user.
procmail is run by sendmail out of the default location in /var/.
Permissions and ownership is all correct on that directory hierarchy.
Problem:
The first account gets email, the second doesn't. Email to the second
account seems to disappear into a black hole - procmail never seems to be
run.
I can't reliably reproduce the problem. As new user accounts are created
with our default .procmailrc file, some receive email, some don't.
I will admit to not having debugged from the sendmail end of things yet
because I was hoping someone might have figured this one out already.
