can procmail do LDAP lookups ?

hi all,
can anyone please clear my views on procmail ?
i want to make procmail do lookups via LDAP server.
normally, if i am right, procmail looks into the
passwd file to verify the existance of users, i want
procmail to query an LDAP server.

is this possible ?
my mail server is sendmail.
