Maybe commas are the best idea.
How about @ (or ! (bang) or $, even though they cause havoc on the
command-line).
I was trying for something that resembles a period as much as possible,
preferably a character of only partial height, so that the folder name
still looks separated into words.
Under Windows, filenames can not contain any of the characters \/:*?"<>|
All others, including ~!(_at_)#$%^&()[]{}-_=+;', are OK, so commas are good.
