I don't off-hand have an answer, but if I wished to depend to
that extent on uncorrupt logfile entries, I'd set up a system to
write the log to individual files (e.g., "$$") and then have
a post-process mechanism stitch them all together. You could
even work it so that you're only ever one single message behind
in the synthetic "real" log.
