Access from external networks to the SMTP-server is blocked by most
ISPs. There is no real need to open it up for smtps.
SPF requires it. If you're away from your "home" internet connection and
connected via some other network, and you want to send email using your
"usual" address, you're going to need to use your ISP's mailserver,
otherwise you'll fail an SPF check on the recipient's end.
