There's an easy enough way to do that:
SHELLMETAS='0123456789abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ'
I'm not sure whether $SHELLMETAS is case-sensitive, but my guess would
be that it is.
