I know you purists have your jaws open, thinking I should be outcast
from the procmail community for not using straight up procmail code to
do this extraction.
No, I'm with you - procmail is next to useless for efficient string
manipulation programming (sorry, but truth be told). It's heaps more
economic in terms of developer time to stick it into a short shell
script instead. And if you've got plenty of CPU to burn, even perl will
do.
In my experience it's dangerous as well as close to impossible to
correctly quote more elaborate shell code inside procmail. If you put
the guts into a #!/bin/yourchoice, does it work then?
