Sean,
Thanks a bunch for taking the time to explain scoring. I
know that the lists contain information regarding it. I was
just hoping that someone would have pity and give me a quick
low-down, and be tolerant. (= So, I definitely appreciate
your explanation. It was very concise, which is exactly
what I needed.
I wonder, however, if I might entreat you on one item
in particular.
then the match is special - procmail will continue to search for a regexp
match and multiply the weight (the number before the ^), by the exponent
(the number after the ^), each time there is a match.
Keeping this in mind, you gave an example establishing a
threshold:
:0
* -135^0
* 90^1 SUBJECT ?? (check\>+out\>+this\>+site)
* 60^2 SUBJECT ?? (mortage|loan|application)
* 200^2 SUBJECT ?? (aphrodisiac|pheromone|androstendione|androstenedione|\
dhea|sexual power|steroid|enlargement|impotency|instant sex appeal)
If the score for a match is determined by multiplying the
weight by the mult. amount, why not simply put:
:0
* -135^0
* 90^1 SUBJECT ?? (check\>+out\>+this\>+site)
* 120^1 SUBJECT ?? (mortage|loan|application)
* 400^1 SUBJECT ?? (aphrodisiac|pheromone|androstendione|\
androstenedione|dhea|sexual power|steroid|\
enlargement|impotency|instant sex appeal)
Is there some benefit to using a larger mult. amount? I
can understand using a number between 0 and 1.
Please consider hitting the list archives - you're not the first person to
express that they fail to comprehend scoring. It has been explained many
times over to some people fortunate enough to breathe, so there should be
plenty of explanation to review.
Now that I have a better understanding due to your help,
I think that the existing list archive material will make
much more sense. (=
Mr Duck
btw, my brain is made from the same stuff with which they
used to fill Stretch Armstrong.
