What's the process for sendmail? That might actually be what I am
looking for instead.

Thanks for the reply. In addition to list traffic, there is other valid
mail being sent to the server1 address. The Mailman program on server1 has
been shut down, but other mail is still handled by the server1 MTA. Until
we shutdown the server1 machine, I need to distinguish between list
traffic and other mail. That is why I though of using Procmail.
My point is that at the MTA _virtusertable_ or _access_ database, you could
simply set up an error for those addresses known to be mailing list addresses.
I'm familiar with the process for sendmail, but there should be parallels
for other MTAs.
in virtusertable:
somelist(_at_)server1(_dot_)domain(_dot_)tld ERROR:5.5.0:550 This list has
moved. Please
visit www.domain.tld/somepage for more information
or, access:
TO:somelist(_at_)server1(_dot_)domain(_dot_)tld 550 " This list has
moved. Please visit
<http://www.domain.tld/somepage> for more information."

Please DO NOT carbon me on list replies. I'll get my copy from the list.
