For the ??, see `man procmailrc`, there is a header "variablename ??" in
there.
MAILDIR is a special variable though, because setting it tries a chdir,
and if that fails then MAILDIR is set to ".".
For the ^^ also see `man procmailrc`, under "Extended regular
expressions".
