Deleting mail destined for root with the -d flag

2008-01-24 06:28:50
Hi All,
My server has been having problems recently with email, I've been
trying for weeks to sort it out, but to no avail :( Seems it's having
trouble dealing with all the spam, I just can't figure out what to do.
I've got spam assassin running, all has been fine, but recently mail
will be really delayed, and when I login to check the server I'll find
there are 600 odd processes running, most of which:-

root 2850 0.0 0.4 37432 4732 ? S 12:55 0:00
sendmail: ./m0OCtpTb002846 from queue
root 2851 0.0 0.4 37432 4740 ? S 12:55 0:00
sendmail: ./m0OCtktJ002834 from queue
root 2852 0.0 0.0 5340 704 ? Ss 12:55 0:00
procmail -f excite(_at_)accucode(_dot_)com -t -Y -a -d root
root 2853 0.0 0.0 5336 708 ? Ss 12:55 0:00
procmail -f jrandall(_at_)benet(_dot_)org -t -Y -a -d root

It seems that any mail destined for an account on my server that doesn't
exist (i.e spam) is being sent to procmail with -d root to put it in the
root mailbox. Procmail seems to deliver these to root VERY slowly and
end up clogging up the system like this...

For the life of me I can't seems to find or make a procmail rule that
says "if it's destined for root with the -d flag, delete it". All the
procmail recipes seem to check is the message headers, which do not
indicate root in any way :'(

I also can't figure out how to get sendmail to just delete email
destined for invalid addresses rather than forwarding them onto procmail...

agghhhhhh, god damn spammers I hate them :'(

Lyle
