I'd suggest breaking with tradition, as tradition is wrong, IMO.
I suggest breaking with tradition also. The backwards compatiblity
can easily be allowed if the domain owner desires it.
I would also suggest that the SPF wizards not add the A: option by
default, unless the domain doesn't have MX records. Even then, it
should warn that it is better to add MX records since the dependance
on A records requires everyone to do two DNS lookups.
The A: option is, IIUC, designed for larger systems that have seperate
outbound MTAs.
