Leaving the SPF discuss list

2004-02-02 18:57:58
Gentlemen & Ladies -

I am leaving the mailing list, with the knowledge that the best people are
taking fine charge. It has been fun lurking on the conversations, and
watching the development of an important protocol (SPF).

Understand that I know how to remove myself from a mailing list without
broadcasting to the list accidentally.

I would like to congratulate you all on a finely rendered achievement. SPF
appears to be well on its way to a successful launch and a strong
counterattack on spam. Meng has shown vigor and diplomacy throughout an
incredibly challenging project. Supporters like Weschler and others have
extended the reach of the project with valuable resources.

I originally joined this mailing list due to a practical hate of spam and
the modest belief that my programming talents would be useful. I was
immediately struck with the talent and knowledge already present in the SPF
community. These community talents extend beyond my modest programming
skills into the practical matters of email deliver and process. The design
challenges were many: early refusal, few round trip requests, 512 bytes of
DNS, and scalable support to the largest providers (e.g. AOL).

The SPF endeavor have been remarkable. I have recommended the fall
discussions of the SPF mailing list as an excellent successful case study of
large scale distributed system's development. The design challenges were
many: early refusal, few round trip requests, 512 bytes of DNS, and
scalable support to the largest providers (e.g. AOL). The key technical
mechanisms have been far less important then the operational and practical
issues of integrating the technology into day to day practices.

I congratulate you all on a fine project to control spam.
