I played with some fetchmail tweaks a few days ago. There I came across
fetchmail --invisible -n
which should solve your problem. Perhaps even one of the two parameters 
will do.
But be careful not to break your existing configuration with this, 
especially when using a single fetchmail job for a multiuser environment.
