The email client setup hadn't changed, it was still sending to the original
SMTP server that they had used through Freeserve.
Is Freeserve also the broadband provider? Freeserve's dialup pools all have
transparent redirection of outgoing port 25 connections to their own
smarthost, so no matter which mail server you think you're connecting to, you
get theirs. If the broadband provider isn't Freeserve, or they don't do the
same redirection for their DSL pools (I don't know if they do or not), you may
be routing mail through a different server even though the settings are the same.
