spfTools.net; A Call for all SPF related tools

2004-07-25 07:44:30
Everyone,

spfTools.net (Sender Policy Framework Tools Network) is a new site
available to the community that will be launching in the near future.
If you are able to participate or aide in the propagation or maintenance
of this proposed site, please read on!

MANDATE:
--------

To provide a single comprehensive portal for tools relating to the
publishing and parsing of SPF records backed by world-wide mirrors
through the use of a simplistic and powerful interface designed to act
as both portal and search engine.

HOW CAN I HELP?
---------------

1. Tool submission - Submit your SPF tool!
2. Hosting - Offer a site mirror (see HOSTING REQUIREMENTS)
3. Maintainer - Individuals who can field questions relating to
both SPF and the available hosted tools.
4. Documentation - There will likely be submissions void of
documentation either completely, or absent of
strong documentation. To deal with this
individuals who can help write documentation for
tools of this nature are desired.

HOSTING REQUIREMENTS
--------------------

1. A stable internet connection capable of at least 3 Mbits within
North America, and 1.5 Mbits any where else in the world.
2. A Linux or BSD distribution* on a machine of at least 1 Ghz in
speed and based on either x86 or x86_64 architectures.
3. Competent admin available or through temporary sudo/root access
the install** will be handled by myself.

* In a situation of excessive available mirrors preference will be given
  to machines operating OpenBSD.

** The install is a package comprised of Apache 1.3.31, Rsync 2.6.2,
   MySQL 3.23.58, Mod_Perl 1.99.14, Perl 5.6.1 and a few other related
libraries. The package operates out of a chroot environment to
provide an additional level of security which will hopefully
   encourage supporters.

GUIDELINES FOR TOOL SUBMISSION FOR SPFTOOLS.NET
-----------------------------------------------

those of you who have authored ANY particular tool, whether it be a
duplicate of existing tools because you just wanted to write your own,
or because you wanted to offer differing features or do things a
different way, please pay attention:

I am now accepting tools that fall under one of the following terms:

  1) LICENSE
  ----------

The submission must be licensed by one or more of the following
  well known Open Source licenses:

Apache / libSPF, BSD, GPL / LGPL, Perl, Public Domain, *Other Open
    Source variant(s)

    * Any license which stipulates nothing more than credit for the work
is deemed to fall under the category of "Other" and as such is
      acceptable.

  2) PURPOSE
  ----------

All code relating to SPF in any way shape or form is acceptable, this
includes tools that relate to proposed or otherwise implemented
modifications or improvements to the Sender Policy Framework.

  3) SOURCE CODE
  --------------

You must submit the source code for your tool. Binary formats will
not be acceptable for obvious security reasons. Binary builds WILL
be accepted only under the condition that it is shipped either party
to source code, separately but in association with source code, or
included with an internet routable address and protocol for obtaining
  the source code freely.

If your tool is hosted by Source Forge submission of your tool is as
simple as providing a URL to the Source Forge site associated with
your tool. (This applies to any site similar in operation to SF)

Please forward tools to the following address: spfTools(_at_)codeshare(_dot_)ca

Tools should be packaged with the following criteria although in the
interest of simply getting submissions this is not mandatory:

Makefile - for systems that warrant compilation, a makefile.
README - gotcha's and other details
INSTALL - howto install the application
CHANGELOG - changes since release
LICENSE - the license your tool falls under
src - source code should be placed within this directory.

For more information fire off an email either as a reply to this one, or
send one appropriately titled to: info(_at_)spfTools(_dot_)net

This invitation is open to ALL, and it is hoped that spfTools.net will
perform as an exceptional portal for all tools relating to SPF. This
should help boost adoption and make it easier for those needing to test
out their new SPF deployment 6 ways from Sunday ;)

Cheers,

James
