Hey!
Two simple rules:
1) The technology that defines SPF shall be free (and ALWAYS free) of
any encumbering influence such as Software Patents and other Licensing
that would restrict any implementation of the proposed standard or
impose levies upon individuals or entities implementing it.
2) The members of the decision making body, that is to say the
individuals exercising direct or indirect influence over the project
should be void of direct or indirect commercial affiliation, or
affiliation with a competing commercial technology or institution.*
Pressure to perform in the market place or to satisfy agendas of
political or monetary origin are UNACCEPTABLE and the SPF working group
MUST be free of such influence.
3). Anyone who qualifies by not violating rule 2 shall be allowed to
participate and whose ideas will be given proper audience and
consideration.
* EG. Microsoft. This does not exclude for example working with someone
like Yahoo's Domain Keys, or other purportedly open technologies being
proposed because we all stand to benefit from works stemming from the
collaboration of parties whose goals are all identical and are void of
monetary influence or political agenda.
No matter WHAT good an entity such as Microsoft states that they can
bring to the table, or actually CAN bring to the table, as is CLEARLY
evident and is heavily documented, you CAN NOT TRUST such entities for
their motivation is PROFIT. In order for SPF to truly solve the problem
of envelope forgery, those exercising influence over its development
absolutely can not be subject to pressure or influence resulting from
the motivation to gain market share, please investors, or benefit
financially.
Now all we need is a list of members proposed for the board, and some
sort of voting mechanism. For those of you familiar with the North
American political methods, please forget everything you know about it.
What I am proposing is not a bloody popularity contest. I don't care if
you hate someone being proposed for this working group, you will do your
utmost to make choices that will best benefit the goals, and not choose
someone just because you like them, or overlook someone because you do
not particularly care for them. If someone's heart is in the right
place, and motives are true to the aforementioned charter, you should
give them due consideration.
Thats it!
Cheers,
James
