I guess it depends on what the meaning of the word is, is.

Does ...client is authorized... mean that is authorized to 
send __THIS__ message?

Does ...client is authorized... mean that is authorized to 
messages, but makes no statement about the authorization
of __THIS__ message?

I would say that in both cases the client IP address is authorized
to send this message with THIS (fill in X) domain name.

Then there is the question of whether the CLIENT is authenticated
to the MTA, using SASL/DRAC and such; and the question whether the
entire MESSAGE is authenticated.

In certain SPF circles, "authorized" and "authenticated" have indeed
become somewhat conflated terms; I picture myself outside
these circles. :)
