[spf-discuss] DSN re forgery gets someones attention

2005-12-08 20:33:01
I received this response from someone who is alarmed at the forgery
my DSN alerted him to (domain and last name masked since I didn't get
permission to post):

Date: Thu, 8 Dec 2005 17:54:41 -0700
From: Kevin XXXXXXXX <kevin(_dot_)xxxxxxxx(_at_)xxxx(_dot_)com>
To: postmaster(_at_)gts2(_dot_)gtsiad(_dot_)com
Cc: rishi(_dot_)xxxxxxxx(_at_)xxxx(_dot_)com, abuse(_at_)godaddy(_dot_)com
Subject: RE: Critical mail server configuration error

According to the e-mail below, this identity theft is preventable.
Rishi(_dot_)xxxxxxxx(_at_)xxxx(_dot_)com, abuse(_at_)godaddy(_dot_)com,
please coordinate to squash this abuse/theft of our identity
accordingly. Also, please let me know if the perpetrators are
identified.

Subject: Registration_Confirmation

Someone at IP address 80.90.165.185 sent an email claiming to be from
Admin(_at_)xxxx(_dot_)com(_dot_) If that wasn't you, then your domain,
xxxx.com, was forged -
i.e. used without your knowlege or authorization by someone attempting to steal
your mail identity. This is a very serious problem, and you need to provide
authentication for your SMTP (email) servers to prevent criminals from forging

... and so on, mentioning SPF and openspf.com (I have updated templates to
openspf.org for the next release).
