[spf-discuss] Election update: LAST CHANCE to register to vote

2006-01-15 01:30:10
At 00:00 UTC or a bit before (less than 16 hours from now) the election will be available and people can start voting.

If you wish to vote next week, you need to register before 23:59 UTC today. If you haven't already, please take a moment to ensure that your name appears on the registered list. The URL is:

Also, Julian suggested previously that we include a "none of those remaining" option for voters to select, and I think this is a good idea. But, it needs to be explained a bit. The "none" option gives a voter the opportunity to express disapproval for any candidates - if there is anyone you would not want to see on the council, rank the "none of those remaining" option higher than those you would like to see excluded. Basically, if you vote for this choice, it means that you would rather see the elections re-run from scratch than to see the candidates below the cut on the council.

This is a totally optional choice and your vote will have much the same effect whether you choose it or not. The only outcome where it makes a difference is if the "none of those remaining" choice ranks in the top 5, which means that there were four or fewer candidates found "acceptable" by the majority of voters. If you don't see any candidates you want to specifically exclude, and block from serving, -or- if you don't want to see a second round of nomination and election in any case, don't choose the "none" option.

Note that others will be able to see the votes cast, though they will never be attributed to individuals. If you disapprove of one or more candidates, they will be able to see that one or more voters disapproved (i.e. ranked the candidate lower than the "none of those remaining" option) but they will not see who made which votes.
