[spf-discuss] spftools links invalid (spftools.net domain reregistered)

2006-01-28 22:05:35

I don't know if people noticed but address
 http://spftools.infinitepenguins.net
gives you not the page you expect but bunch of ads

From what I can gather this due to reregistration of domain spftools.net:

[DOMAIN whois information for SPFTOOLS.NET ]
   Domain Name: SPFTOOLS.NET
Namespace: ICANN Unsponsored Generic TLD - http://www.icann.org
TLD Info: See IANA Whois - http://www.iana.org/root-whois/net.htm
   Registry: VeriSign, Inc. - http://www.verisign-grs.com
   Registrar: CAPITOLDOMAINS, LLC - http://www.capdom.com
   Whois Server: whois.capdom.com
   Name Server[whois+dns with ip] NS1.2N4C0.COM 64.20.39.26
   Name Server[whois+dns with ip] NS2.2N4C0.COM 64.20.33.130
   Name Server[whois+dns with ip] NS3.2N4C0.COM 64.20.33.3
   Updated Date: 13-Oct-2005
   Creation Date: 03-Oct-2005
   Expiration Date: 03-Oct-2006
   Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK

The link of spftools.infinitepenguins.net is setup as follows:
;; ANSWER SECTION:
spftools.infinitepenguins.net. 10277 IN CNAME spf.infinitepenguins.net.
spf.infinitepenguins.net. 85877 IN A 142.179.94.230
;; AUTHORITY SECTION:
spf.infinitepenguins.net. 85877 IN NS ns2.lost-carrier.com.
;; ADDITIONAL SECTION:
ns2.lost-carrier.com. 172277 IN A 142.179.94.230

From what I can see 142.179.94.230 is same as lost-carrier.com and has
not been re-registered and appears to belong to James Couzens. So redirection to non-working domain happens at his server (note entirely sure as during debug I see instead redirection to old.spf.infinitepenguins.net and this gives the ads - I suspect
proxying on lost-carrier.com webserver is involved).

I think this needs to be fixed and if anybody can get hold of
James, it would be good if he changed his system and if he can
can not resurrect spf.infinitepenguins.net, then at least get
redirection changed to openspf.org website

About spftools.net domain - I guess anybody who has links to it,
should remove those links so we don't feed domain thieves.
