Oh, really?  For me, it was obvious.  For me, the formal grammar isn't the 
end to it all (just like with "a/44").

Yes, the spec could have been clearer on some points, but most of the 
fuzziness can be compensated just by using one's brain.

Exactly, and the test-suite take the above interpretation - which was
the obvious one to me also.  Which is why various malformed exp and redirect
modifiers require permerror.  EXCEPT for the explicit exception in 6.2/4.

Which the current (unreleased) test-suite is now ambivalent about thanks to the
dissension.
